Tribute to Manuel Fortes, Nho Becha, excellent violin player
It is with deep emotion that Bravanews pays a grand tribute to Manuel Fortes, affectionately known as Nhô Becha. This tribute celebrates the life and legacy of one of Ilha Brava's most beloved sons, a man whose soul and art resonated in every corner of the island and beyond. Nho Becha passed away at the age of 94 on August 17, 2025, in the United States of America, leaving an immense void, but also a treasure trove of memories.

For those who knew him, Nho Becha was not just a musician; he was the very embodiment of the Bravense spirit. His violin was not just an instrument, it was the voice of the island. His strings told stories of love, longing and joy, with melodies that became the soundtrack to countless lives.
For decades, Nho Becha entertained at parties, weddings, christenings and social evenings, turning every occasion into an unforgettable moment. His presence was synonymous with celebration, his music with happiness. He played with an unparalleled passion, a contagious energy that made anyone want to dance. And even when the music stopped, his friendship and his smile continued to fill the space.
More than his musical virtuosity, Nho Becha was admired for his immense humanity. He was a "friend of friends", always ready to help, to give a word of comfort or simply to share a moment of laughter. His house was always open, a haven where you could find good conversation, a glass of grog and, of course, his music.
His simplicity, humility and his love of life and his island made him a legendary figure. Nho Becha didn't seek fame, but his art and his kindness made him famous in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
His legacy endures not only in the melodies he left behind, but also in the memories of each person he touched with his music and his friendship. He showed us that true wealth is not in what you have, but in what you share.
The tribute to Nhô Becha is a recognition of a life dedicated to music, friendship and Ilha Brava. It is an invitation to celebrate his memory, to share the stories he helped to create and to ensure that the sound of his violin never fades.
To his family and friends, Bravanews sends its deepest condolences. Ilha Brava has lost one of its greatest treasures, but the echo of Nhô Becha's violin will continue to lull its dreams and warm its hearts forever.
